Sinning never felt so good… A fortuitous encounter. A meeting that should never have happened.
Many years ago, two children from completely different worlds forged a connection, a fateful connection, an unbreakable bond that would change their lives forever…
Salome knows only one way to live—under Prophet David’s rule. In the commune she calls home, Salome knows nothing of life beyond her strict faith, nor of life beyond the Fence—the fence that cages her, keeps her trapped in an endless cycle of misery. A life she believes she is destined to always lead, until a horrific event sets her free.
Fleeing the absolute safety of all she has ever known, Salome is thrust into the world outside, a frightening world full of uncertainty and sin; into the protective arms of a person she believed she would never see again.
River ‘Styx’ Nash knows one thing for certain in life—he was born and bred to wear a cut. Raised in a turbulent world of sex, Harleys, and drugs, Styx, unexpectedly has the heavy burden of the Hades Hangmen gavel thrust upon him, and all at the ripe old age of twenty-six—much to his rivals’ delight.
Haunted by a crushing speech impediment, Styx quickly learns to deal with his haters. Powerful fists, an iron jaw and the skillful use of his treasured German blade has earned him a fearsome reputation as a man not to be messed with in the shadowy world of outlaw MC’s. A reputation that successfully keeps most people far, far away.
Styx has one rule in life—never let anyone get too close. It’s a plan that he has stuck to for years, that is, until a young woman is found injured on his lot… a woman who looks uncannily familiar, a woman who clearly does not belong in his world, yet a woman he feels reluctant to let go…
Review by Bubbles The Book Pimp
Ok so I’ve read one or two other books by Tillie Cole… but this one was always on my radar.. mc is not on my list of favourite romance sub-genres to read and neither is dark romance. I am quite selective and fussy when it comes to both…not because of the darkness..a whole wealth of reasons but never the darkness..it’s more to do with the tone and flow of past books that I have read… But when I read the blurb I knew I had to read this book.
I’m not going to rehash the pretty outstanding blurb…. when most people mention Tillie Cole they have already one ( or all ) of this series. I’m playing catch up!
Once I started reading Mae’s story I couldn’t stop, her life and experiences at the hands of others, were not only harrowing and brutal, but I was sucked in by the shell of a girl who wanted nothing but to escape her life and couldn’t stop reading if I wanted to or tried.
The story wasn’t what I was expecting for a ‘dark MC romance’ it wasn’t brutal for brutal sake…yes the hangmen were bloodthirsty but you know after reading about each of their charachters that there is more to them than the crude, womanising, trash talkking bloodthirsty asholes that what they portray… it’s a front for each individuals own traumatic and painful experiences…finding themselves a home of likeminded brothers in arms.
The Hangman’s Mute and President of the MC Styx, with fists of iron… is the biggest and deadliest hardass softie for his woman…. I didn’t expect to like him… let alone love his charachter…controlling, Jealous, possessive and demanding…are traits I prefer in somewhat small doeses in my book boyfriends and never all four at once… but he was also protective, nurturing and caring…. yeah he suckered me into liking him 🤣🤣
This book ( and series ) is filled with a whole bunch of interesting, unique and emotion raising charachters. Their nature’s and actions lead me to feel very conflicted… but who doesn’t love an anti hero… so why not have a whole bunch of them 🙌🏻🤣💯 and Prez Styx aka River was no different.
This is not a light and fluffy read, but you probably know that…it’s filled with potential triggers..(emotional and physical abuse) but it’s also a story about over coming your past and fighting your inner and outer demons..it’s a great series opener, filled with masses of story, serious bloodthirsty asskicking, some hints at future charachters tales and a whole heap of off the charts chemistry between the leading charachters. I’m looking forward to continuing the series.
