Review by Bubbles The Book Pimp

Standalone contemporary romance/ romantic suspense by jade Webb, who is a new read author for me. I loved the blurb and it original concept when I first read it and had to give it a go.

Hacker Mia, has had a rough go at life, considering she was raised by a loving father who ensured she had everything and more. A rich upbringing that came crashing down and falling to pieces.. when her father was arrestEd and implicated in a massive money laundering scheme. From princess to penniless, in the blink of an eye.

Fast forward ten years, Finding that the bounty on her head has grown massively makes Mia reach out to the most unlikely of men… Diego Medina playboy, manwhore journalist… and son of the man that arrested her father ten years earlier.

For me story wise this book ticked all my boxes, a original plot, well written characters and great chemistry.

I personally would not consider it a romantic comedy but more of the contemporary romance/suspense genre. The crime/mystery was the focus of this story and the fall out on the families. How Diego and Mia were/had dealt with their fathers actions.

I’m not normally a fan of romantic suspense, but this book kept me intrigued and entertained throughout. I loved the thought of a female hacked hiding out and enlisting the support of a journalist… and the way Mia entraps Diego’s attention just ticked means was pure heat 🔥

I wasn’t much enamoured by Diego as a character to start, I’m not a fan of playboys or their excuses for doing what they do…. however… I’m happy to say that the author managed to bring me round and I did feel a smidge ( ok a lot more than a smidge ) less hostile towards him… the emotion and despair at the loss of his father, his support was beautifully written and I truly empathised for his loss. The fact he and Mia has the whole ‘should be enemies’ but we’re drawn together through similar experiences and loss was not lost on me. It was well crafted and well written.

On the whole this was a great read, I would have loved for a few minor loose ends to be tied up at the end. I will defiantly be looking at more books from this author.

Author Bio

I am a lover of romance novels that feature strong heroines who know that the loves that may come into their lives are always the icing, and never the cake.

I have loved romance novels since I was a teen, sneaking them into my Bible studies at my all-girls Catholic school. I love strong heroines who know that the men that may come into their lives are always the icing, and never the cake.

Thanks to my own marriage, I have learned that the challenges of life can only help to make love stronger and I am grateful to my partner for embodying all the magic that love can offer.

When I am not writing or dreaming up new love stories, I am working in a retirement community outside of Boston that provides me with enough writing material for ten lifetimes.
