πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§ BUBBLES @ RARE18 London calling πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

β€˜I LOVE PEEN!!!’ is NOT something any sane person would not scream at a author….

BUT this is Bubbles the book pimp we’re talking about, not some rational and sane person… I’m just not that cool and collected..In my head I thought I was saying β€˜I really loved your book Ball Peen Hammer, it was funny and touching and such a great read’ and in my defence I had a total brain fart/fan girl moment when I met the amazing Lauren Rowe…
Who graciously ignored my screaming about loving cock! And said β€˜thank you’.

And the day had started on such a positive note.. Bubbles and Trusty Trombone had a hearty breakfast and arrived at the event centre a good hour and a bit before general admissions were let in.

Yes the queue was immense but we were whisked inside relatively quickly and it wasn’t a hardship waiting outside.
We soaked up and shared in the excited nerves that all our fellow attendees were experiencing outside.

Laughs over comparisons of trolleys, bags and suitcases for books were made and discussions about who were a must see and what future events were shared.
It was -2 outside but we were all raring to go meet our unicorn authors….

And then I blew it…I opened my mouth and the brain was only somewhat engaged… and that is why I generally stick to my reviews or blog posts! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ because I have the benefit of collecting my generally giddy, chaotic book loving thoughts.

After that fiasco I generally let Trombone take the lead in greeting the attending authors. She has the benefit of brain engagement at all times πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»

With a list of authors over 100 people long it was a veritable banquet of romance genres…from sci fi to military to contemporary to vampires to dark to cyborgs and more!

We love Alanea Alder

We were in book heaven and a number of personal unicorns were in attendance.

Attendees or RARETTES were ready for battle armed with suitcases, backpacks and trolleys. It was obvious to me as a relative rookie at signing events I was unprepared… by the end of the day my backpack was a veritable torture device!

I now know that the veteran attendees/rarettes all had trolleys!!
I have amended my future game plan I know what to take into battle next time.

This bad boy will be my chariot at future events

A trolley with a seat is a must – seating is limited and you are on your feet all day
Supplies – packed lunch and liquids to keep the energy levels up
Battery pack – your phone is out constantly taking picks with authors is a must
A Buddy – to keep you sane in the moments when you feel like your feet have died

Sooo many authors!!

There was me thinking I would show some restraint and be good and leave with a few books and a little swag… that I would have my autograph book signed and be more than content with that….. I will tell you now I failed in that respect…

I ended up leaving weighed down with 5 Books, which is NOTHING compared to some of the hauls I saw on the day…I keep checking the Rare group and the most books in one day so far was 79!! and a literal ton of swag!
I’ve considered changing my name to #Bubblestheswagdonkey.

There were a number of events held and organised for fans to attend but the main focus for me was the signing.
Early admission started at 9:30 and general admission at 11:00 with the event finishing at 4:30.

The introduction of ticketed lines was a genius idea by the organisers… you got your numbered wristband and whilst waiting for that number to be called you went off and were able to see, meet and check out other authors… as a Brit, I am used to queuing, BUT anything that reduces mad endless queues is a bonus in my opinion and it was a great idea, some minor tweaking for future events and it will be a fool proof one!

Perhaps better planning on my part in relation to pre orders of books… but like everything in life…it’s a lesson well learned and I wasn’t disappointed.

The organisation that had gone into this massive massive event was fantastic and I was impressed with how smoothly ( compared to my other events ) it went, and on such a large scale.

100 authors and over 1500 attendees… and we got to speak and meet all but one of the authors on my list of 40!! I will say from looking at previous RARE events they do have repeat attendees, which is great…any I didn’t see or have time to speak to this time round I will make a beeline for at the next events.

I will tell you now that the time flew in a blur of laughter, photos, fangirling and total happiness. I’m already planning my attack for future scheduled RARE events.

Look out RARE19 London and RARE20 Edinburgh…..Bubbles and Trombone are coming to get you!
